Moving home? It happens to be one of the most stressful things you can do in life, and for good reason. There is so much upheaval and things you have to do, not just during the move, but in the lead-up and once you have gotten into your new place. So, it is understandable that there are things you can easily forget. With that in mind, here are some of the things to think about to help you make the process of moving house an easy one.
Label the boxes for each room
One of the first things you need to remember when packing up your house is to label things correctly. Labels on the boxes could be anything from the room they are for, the type of things that are in them and even if they are fragile or delicate. A moving company could also help with this process, but even if you do decide to pack yourself before the movers come in, they will at least know where you want all of the boxes and items to go. It will certainly make things easier when you arrive at your new place.
Pack for your new place and not your old
This brings us nicely to my next point to ensure that you pack for your new place and not your old. You may have had one thing in one room in your house now, but it might be that you are having it somewhere else in the new place. When packing boxes, pack them up for the new rooms that you have and not the old ones. Once they are labelled you will find that the unpacking process will be far easier as you will have already decided what is going where.
Make things easier on yourself
Moving house is a hard thing to do, and there are a lot of aspects of it that we do not think about ahead of time. For example, being able to tell people quickly what your new address is, change bills, or even arrange rubbish clearance from your old or new place. You can also make things easier by hiring local movers to do all of the heavy lifting and difficult jobs. Telling people your address and informing bill providers should also be a top priority, but arranging a mail redirection in advance can help avoid any missed correspondence.
Pack the essentials in a separate box for the first 24 hours
Finally, the first night in your new place can be quite exciting, but it will not be that fun if you spend the evening searching through boxes looking for a kettle or your toiletries. An essentials box could be key for those first 24 hours, and you could pack anything you think you might need to get you through the first day. You will be thankful for this level of organisation on your part.
Let us hope that these tips prompt you not to forget some of the common things when moving home.
