Proper Ways To Plan For A Family Road Trip Through Mallorca

January 19, 2019

When you think of road trips, Mallorca, is not usually the first place that springs to mind. But with its rolling green hills, winding country roads, breathtaking scenery, ancient ruins, and beautiful castles, Spain offers a stunning and relaxing road trip itinerary to satisfy every traveler.

Taking road trips with your family from time to time can help you bond with one another and see new and exciting things together. Before heading out on the road trip, it is important to make sure that you properly plan for it, so that everything can go as smoothly as possible once you are out on the open road. Thus, make sure to rent a car in Mallorca, as soon as you have decided on your trip.

This guide will walk you through a few ways you can prepare for your next family road trip:

Do Not Post Pictures On Social Media

When people go on trips, they often want to post pictures of the things that they are doing and seeing right away. This is not a good idea. Putting anything on social media that allows people to know that you are out of town can make your home a target for thieves. It is best to wait to post pictures and videos of your trip until you are safe and sound at home.

Have An Alarm System Installed

It is best to have an alarm system installed in your home to monitor what is going on while you are away. The alarm will alert you if someone breaks into your home or if a fire breaks out. This will give you time to contact the proper authorities and prevent further damage to your home, even if you are away.

Put A Hold On Your Mail

When you go on a trip, it is important to go to the post office to put a hold on your mail until you get back in town. The post office will hold your mail at their office until the specific date that you tell them to start the service again. This keeps mail from piling up in your mailbox. You do not want this to happen, because it is a sign to thieves that no one is at home and it is readily available for them to go into.

Ensure Your Animals Are Cared For

Before you go on a trip, you want to be sure that your animals will be well cared for while you are away. Many people need to board their dogs when they go out of town. If your dog has never been boarded before, you may want to take him or her to the kennel where they will be staying and allow them to stay alone a few hours. It is best to take them to the kennel a few times before you actually leave them so that they know what to expect and can get adjusted.

Pack Accordingly

When packing for your trip, it is best to know ahead of time what your family plans to do and see on the outing. This allows you to be sure that you pack the right clothes for everyone, so that you do not have to buy anything along the way. You do not want to over pack though. Remember that there are laundromats all over the country, so you could always stop and do laundry if needed to cut down on how much you have to take with you on the trip.

How do you pack for Mallorca? Mallorca is a laid-back island and most people find they over pack, especially for beach and poolside holidays that require little more than bathing suits and a couple of changes of shorts and T-shirts. Going out is a casual affair and ties and jackets are not required, even in the smartest restaurants. Summers are hot, but layers are advisable for the rest of the year when the weather is patchier and evenings are cool. Forget wearing high heels on the cobbled streets of Mallorca’s hill towns – flats it is.

Places You Cannot Miss In Mallorca

Whetheryou are into sunbathing on beaches where beautiful blue Mediterranean waters caress the sand or like exploring medieval villages, Mallorca is sure to tempt your traveler’s taste buds. Mallorca is the largest island in the Balearic archipelago, drawing holiday makers from all over. The island is part of Spain, so you will obviously find Spanish touches here and there. You will also find some traces of Arab and Roman history. Three of the must-visit destinations while there are:

  • Deia

This tiny village might seem quaint with its uniform green-shuttered houses, but it is actually been home to everyone from poet and novelist Robert Graves to the super rich looking for a coastal hideaway. Head to the town’s small shingle beach, Cala Deia, for swimming and probably some of the freshest seafood you will ever taste.

  • Es Ponta

Mallorca is well noted for its rock climbing spots – the most famous being this giant natural arch formation. Es Ponta is located on the southeastern side of the island, within easy reach of nearby town Santanyi.

  • Palma

Mallorca’s capital is fast becoming one of Europe’s most desirable weekend destinations with plenty of boutique hotel options to explore. It is worth visiting if only to see the cobbled lanes and Gothic Cathedral in the old quarter. There are also plenty of market stalls, boutiques, and foodie spots to explore while you are there.

A car gives you the ultimate freedom. Pack your sense of adventure, bring your loved ones, and hit the road without a care in the world! Driving in Mallorca is by far the best way to travel the island. Car hire agencies are easy to find, but it is always better to book in advance. This will allow you to find the right vehicle, save money, and make sure it is all settled before you get there.

Renting a car will allow you the freedom to witness the beauty of the island at your leisure. It is obligatory for every passenger in the car, not only the driver to wear seat belts.  Please ensure that you always have your license and insurance with you when driving. When driving in Mallorca through built up areas be aware of pedestrian crossings.

Now that you know the essentials, you are more than ready to go!
