Of course, a week is not enough to see everything in this marvelous country, but with a week, you can create a wonderful itinerary and see many of the most breathtaking offerings of the main cities of Spain.

Days 1-3: Madrid

Madrid is the capital and the country’s largest city. It is a modern and bustling metropolis, buzzing like a beehive and full of life, which does not stop, even at night.

Madrid Attractions

It is a good idea to start at the Plaza Puerta del Sol, the main square. On holidays, there are cultural events and at other times there are acrobats, musicians, and mimes.

Another historical square, Plaza Mayor, is located southwest of Puerta del Sol. This square resembles a huge courtyard surrounded by buildings with balconies. Six passageways through arches in the houses lead to it from different streets. There are many atmospheric cafes as well, so be sure to sit back and relax while enjoying the sites around you.

To be in Spain and bypass such a sight as the Prado Museum is simply impossible. The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is also a valuable addition to the Prado. Those who like modern art will be interested in the Queen Sofia National Museum of Art.

Walking around Madrid is one of the most popular things to do. There are so many beautiful buildings. Once a post office, the Cibeles Palace is an amazing building in its own right!

The top attractions in Madrid include the parks as well. The most impressive is Buen Retiro. It is a luxuriously manicured park filled with plants, original architectural forms, and fountains. It is nice to come here after a long walk through the bustling streets to have a picnic on the grass, take a boat ride on the pond, or just sit in silence.

Days 3-5: Valencia

The fastest and most convenient way to get to Valencia is a train from Madrid to Valencia. Buying tickets is incredibly convenient online.

Valencia, which lies on the Mediterranean coast, is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. It has a very mild climate, many beautiful beaches, and historical monuments, making Valencia attractive for an unforgettable vacation. Valencia’s second name is the land of holiday lights and flowers.

Valencia Attractions

Walk around the Old City and discover Valencia’s Cathedral, the crown jewel, not only of the city’s Gothic and neoclassical architecture but also its religious center.

You should also take in Lonja de la Seda, one of the most famous architectural monuments in Valencia. This landmark is a collection of buildings where the silk trade took place in the Middle Ages and is rightly considered a magnificent work of art by Spanish architects.

Next, travel on to the Palacio del Marques de Dos Aguas, which is home to the National Museum of Ceramics. It has a magnificent front entrance decorated with alabaster compositions of the Madonna.

If you enjoy visiting parks, pay attention to the Gardens of Turia — the largest linear park in Europe, which includes numerous areas for recreation, sports, forest, artificial lakes, tropical gardens, a zoo, and masterpieces of landscape design and architecture.

One last thing you do not want to miss: the paella-making tradition began in Valencia, so trying this famous Spanish dish is a must! Generally, paella is eaten for lunch, so plan ahead, as it is not served for dinner.

Day 5-7: Barcelona

In just a few clicks on your computer, you can book a ticket for any route within the country on the most convenient service: Rail.Ninja. The train ride from Valencia to Barcelona takes about 3-4 hours.

Barcelona, or “Pearl of Catalonia”, is an idyllic ancient city, located in the northeast of Spain.

Barcelona Attractions

The sights of Barcelona encompass almost 2,000 years of its history and include a medieval old town, a unique grid of streets that reflect the urban planning trends of the 19th century, and many fascinating, unusual buildings.

Sagrada Familia is an enormous basilica that has been under construction for more than 130 years. The project remains unfinished today and will be completed in 2026. The original design of Gaudi has been changed many times by his predecessors over the past 130 years.

Also, a must-see is the show of the singing fountains on Mount Montjuïc. This show begins just after sunset. As darkness gradually falls on the city. The all-around splashing fountains in numerous rays of light begin playing beautiful classical music. You will never forget this spectacular sight!

Park Guell, an incredibly beautiful park originally designed to create a residential complex was added to the UNESCO heritage list in 1984.

Of course a trip to Barcelona would not be complete without a walk along Las Ramblas! This is the most important and exciting pedestrian and tourist artery of Barcelona that includes palaces, theaters, museums, churches, markets, and artists. Every day on Las Ramblas provides a new experience!
