Are You Overlooking These Areas Of Your Child’s Health?

April 21, 2020

Are you worried about your child’s health? This is a major concern and it is not hard to understand why. Every day in the media we are introduced to new reports about how children are suffering from health issues. If it is not childhood obesity, then it could be that they are experiencing tinnitus or even depression. You might think that you are looking after your child’s health, but there could be elements that you are missing. Here are some of the issues that you need to watch out for:

Oral Health

A common mistake that parents make surrounding oral health is that baby teeth don’t matter. Afterall kids are going to lose them eventually anyway, so it do not matter if they are a little worse for wear by the time they fall outright? Well, there are a few issues here. First, it is not just the teeth that can get damaged by poor oral hygiene standards. There is also the damage to the gums and this can be far more long term.

As well as this, it is important to build up the right habits from an early age. Habits are actually notoriously difficult to break. So, if you get kids into a pattern of brushing their teeth each morning and evening then the will probably continue to do this until way into their teens. Without the right oral hygiene standards, kids can and probably will develop problems with their oral health that you need to be prepared for. That is why it is important to make sure that they are taking regular trips to the distance. A lot of kids hate going to the dentist and that is understandable. The trick is to make sure that you find the right dentist who can make them feel completely secure.

Mental Health

You might assume that kids are not that at risk of developing issues with their mental health. However, this is not quite true. Research shows that kids are at risk of developing mental health issues, even from a young age. Indeed, studies have revealed that kids as young as eight or overly stressed and may even suffer from a form of depression. That is why you need to make sure that you are keeping a check on the mental health of your child. If you can, then it is worth exploring the things that negatively impact their mental health and taking the time to correct the issues.

Do not forget that outside variables can impact the mental health of your child. One of the issues to watch out for is always going to be bullying. Research suggests that up to 70% of children feel as though they have been bullied by the time they reach the age of 18. This is why you need to stay on top of your children’s experience at school. It is important to ensure that they do not feel lost or alone if they are facing a situation like this.

Eyesight

Alternatively, you might want to think about the eyesight of your children. It is important when kids are young to make sure that you get their eyesight tested and checked regularly. During the first years, their eyesight can change quite quickly, however they might not be aware of the issue. They may just know that they are unable to see the board at school or read properly. This can lead to problems such as a child being mistaken for suffering from dyslexia when it is really just a vision issue. The good news is that you can shop online for prescription lenses, so you do not have to worry about your child going without treatment for long. This will immediately get them back on track and ensure that they don’t experience any other issues.

Hearing

Finally, you should think about your child’s hearing. Did you know that a higher percentage of children are suffering from the condition tinnitus? If you are not aware, tinnitus causes you to hear noises that are not there. The noises in question can be anything. Some people hear whistling while others find that they can hear a piece of music on repeat. It can be caused by a wide variety of issues but the fear is that children are damaging their hearing due to loud noises. In the past tinnitus was largely confined to the older population but lately due to personal music devices, soundbars, and another tech, it is impacting kids too. This is why you need to make sure that you are paying attention to the volume your kids are using on devices like this.

We hope this helps you understand some of the health issues that your children could experience that you might be overlooking completely. It is important that you do not forget about these areas because they can cause significant issues over time.
