Five Overlooked Parts Of Your Home That You Should Clean

June 1, 2022

‍It is probably no surprise that keeping your home clean can be challenging. Your house is probably filled with little nooks and crannies where dirt and grime can easily hide. Thankfully, cleaning your home does not have to be a Sisyphean task. With the right tips and tricks, you can probably clean your home in about an hour or two every week. However, you need to prioritize which parts of your home need cleaning most urgently. The problem is that many people overlook certain rooms when thinking about cleaning their homes effectively. However, these overlooked spaces are precisely where dirt and grime tend to hide most often.

Light Switches

One overlooked part of your home that you should clean is the light switches. These are easy places to collect dust and grime, but many people do not clean them as often as they should. If you do not clean the light switches regularly, they can quickly become a breeding ground for germs as they are often in contact with hands and faces, and they can pick up all sorts of bacteria from these areas. If you do not clean light switches regularly, this bacteria can spread to other parts of your home. You can easily clean light switches with a damp rag and some soap or antibacterial cleaning solution.

Baseboards

Baseboards are often neglected when you are cleaning your home. They are not as obvious as other parts of your home that need cleaning, but they are hidden where dust, grime, and dirt can build up. To clean the baseboards, you should vacuum them using a brush attachment. Finally, you should mop the baseboards with a cleaning solution to kill germs, clean the baseboards, and disinfect the area.

Septic System

Many people overlook the maintenance of their septic systems. The majority of houses in the US have a septic system to deal with sewage and greywater, and they require regular septic tank cleaning and maintenance if you want them to function correctly. Unfortunately, these systems are hidden away, meaning that many homeowners forget to clean them regularly. When you neglect your septic system, it can become clogged with dirt and other substances. If you want to keep your septic system healthy, you should regularly have it cleaned and pumped. Otherwise, the cost of repair or replacement can be high.

Under Appliances

The area under your appliances is often a neglected place in your home. However, this is another hidden spot where dirt, grime, and germs can build up and thrive. To clean the space under your appliances, you should vacuum it. You should also use a disinfectant cleaner like bleach on this area. This will help you to kill germs and clean the area. You should also use a paper towel to dry the area under your appliances so that you don’t create an extra mess.

Kitchen Cabinets

Another overlooked part of your home that you should clean is underneath your appliances. Many people do not clean underneath their appliances as often as they should, which can lead to a build-up of dust and grime. Appliances like your refrigerator, stove and washing machine can collect dust and dirt under them. If you do not clean under your appliances, rodents and pests may make their way into your home through these areas. Thus, if you want to keep pests out of your home, you should clean under your appliances regularly.
