It was really important to us that we find a hotel directly on the beach while staying in Wilmington, North Carolina. Since our hometown of Charlotte is landlocked, whenever we travel we want to be as close to the ocean as possible. If you are anything like us, and especially if you are traveling with children, then there is no better place to call home for a couple of days than the Holiday Inn Resort Wrightsville Beach.
The Holiday Inn has a KidsClub (for ages four to twelve) that offers specific theme days, complete with crafts and games that end with a dinner and movie. Throughout the year, the KidsClub has different programs like Learn To Surf, Mixed Martial Arts, Meet a Marine Bootcamp, Learn to Build a Big Sandcastle, and much more. Gabby, the hotel mascot parrot, will even deliver milk and cookies to the little ones before bedtime.
When you check in make sure to say “hi” to Gabby. She is extremely friendly! Unfortunately, since Joaquín is only two, we were unable to experience the magic of KidsClub, but I have no doubt that we will be returning as he gets older.
My husband and I wanted to spend some time in the hotel rocking chairs while admiring the gorgeous ocean before us, but our son had only one thing on his mind: beach soccer.
Considering that Lucas hopes Joaquín will one day play for Team Argentina in a future World Cup, he had zero problem joining him.
If you have never been before, you simply must visit Wilmington one day. As North Carolina’s most accessible coastal destinations, Wilmington has everything you love about a historical Southern city, plus three beautiful island beaches: Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, and Wrightsville Beach. We were on the latter. This is a place where you are encouraged to immerse yourself in the natural beauty that abounds here; you are free to be spontaneous and see where the water takes you!
After hours of running up and down the beach, plus a visit to both the indoor and outdoor pool, it was time to return to our room for a rest.
One of my absolute favorite things about the Holiday Inn Resort Wrightsville Beach is their restaurant Oceans. We decided to order room service, so that we could eat with our windows wide open in order to see and hear the ocean. The food was delicious and the best part is that kids eat for free and are given an adorable plastic souvenir’s cup to keep and a scoop of ice cream as well. Joaquín was in heaven, and so were we!
It was such a special moment for the three of us that I will never forget. We then gave Joaquín a bubble bath and then the three of us cuddled up in the bed and watched the movie Sing. Perfect ending to the perfect day.
Thank you for the kind words Andi! We hope you and your beautiful family come back and see us soon.
Thank you for such an awesome experience! We will definitely be back!!! <3
