Breathe Easy: Smart Ways To Keep The Air In Your Home Clean

June 28, 2021

We all know the benefits of deep lungfuls of clean, fresh air such as providing more oxygen to the brain and minimizing the risk of any allergies being triggered. However, did you know that you do not have to go on a daily hike to reap these benefits? Indeed, you can access them within your own home, by following the guidance below.

Clean And Repair Air Ducts

Just like any other piece of equipment and machinery the air ducts in your home will need some love from time to time. This is because it is not uncommon for leaks to appear within them or even for mold and mildew to build up inside. Of course, this means when the hot or cold air you have selected passes over the mold it picks up spores and pumps them into your living space and around your whole home, not something that is great for people living there.

Cleaning and repairing air ducts can be a bit challenging though, so it is best to get a professional to do this job for you, as they will have all the equipment required for a thorough clean.

Hood Filters Matter

You may think that you only need to use your stove hood when you have had a cooking mishap and burnt something. However, this is not the case, because all stoves release harmful pollutants like nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide that you will not want high concentrations of in your home.

With that in mind, turning on your stove hood whenever you cook and making sure you replace the filter regularly is a very good idea indeed.

Clean Your Carpets

Even homes that opt for hardwood floors tend to have rugs to make things warmer and more comfortable. However, if you have rugs or carpets, keeping them clean is essential to maintaining clean air in the home.

One way to do this is to vacuum regularly with a device that has a HEPA filter. This should then trap a lot of the dirt, mold, and other harmful particles. Regular carpet and rug washing is a smart idea too, although hiring or investing in the right equipment is necessary for a good result.

Be Mindful Of Humidity

If the humidity of your home is too low or too high it can seriously impact the quality of the air. Too much moisture (high humidity) means a greater chance of mildew and mold. Whereas too little can also aggravate allergies, asthma

The solution here is to research HVAC contractors that also specialize in indoor air quality, something that means that they can install a range of products such as whole-home humidifiers and even home air filtration systems that kill airborne viruses and germs. Methods of purifying the air in your home that can be far more effective than regular vacuuming and opening windows.

Use Plant To Filter The Air In Your Home

Finally, if you want your family to breathe cleaner air, then adding plants to your living space is one of the best actions you can take. The reason for this is that houseplants naturally absorb pollutants and release clean air. All that and they look great too!
