KLYYR Toothpaste Review: Why I Tried A 10% Hydroxyapatite Toothpaste

August 24, 2026

If there is one thing I have learned over the years of writing about wellness, it is that some of the most interesting changes to your routine are also the smallest. Sometimes it is not an entirely new morning ritual or an elaborate ten-step wellness routine. Sometimes it is simply looking at something you have used twice a day for your entire life and asking: Wait…what is actually in this?

That was exactly what caught my attention about KLYYR (pronounced “clear”).

KLYYR ONE+ Natural Mint features a 10% hydroxyapatite formula designed for fluoride-free enamel care.

KLYYR is a fluoride-free toothpaste formulated with 10% hydroxyapatite, using a combination of both nano and micro hydroxyapatite. And once I started learning about hydroxyapatite, I immediately understood why this ingredient has generated so much interest in oral care.

So, What Exactly Is Hydroxyapatite?

Here is the part that initially fascinated me: hydroxyapatite is a calcium-phosphate mineral that is naturally present in our teeth and bones. In other words, when KLYYR says, “Brush with what your teeth are made of,” there is an actual reason behind that statement.

Hydroxyapatite has also been used in oral-care products in Japan for decades, although it has become much more talked about in the United States in recent years. And there is an interesting little piece of history here, too.

Hydroxyapatite research has connections to NASA. Researchers investigated calcium-phosphate materials in relation to the mineral loss astronauts can experience in microgravity, and that research helped contribute to the broader development and understanding of hydroxyapatite technology.

I love stumbling across little stories like this because toothpaste is probably the last place I expected to find a connection to space research!

What Makes KLYYR Different?

Once I started looking into hydroxyapatite toothpastes, I realized that simply seeing the word hydroxyapatite on a label does not necessarily tell you the entire story. KLYYR’s formula contains 10% hydroxyapatite and combines both nano and micro hydroxyapatite. The idea behind using both particle sizes is that they can interact with the tooth surface differently, rather than relying on just one form.

KLYYR also keeps its formula intentionally minimal and is fluoride-free, which may appeal to people who are specifically looking for a fluoride-free oral-care option.

For me, though, one of the biggest draws was simply the ingredient transparency.

I am absolutely one of those people who turns a bottle around and reads the label. Whether it is skincare, supplements, food, or something I am using every single morning and night, I like knowing what is actually there. Toothpaste should not be an exception.

What Using KLYYR Is Actually Like

Of course, an interesting ingredient list only gets a product so far. It still has to be something you actually enjoy using.

KLYYR has been incredibly easy to incorporate into my routine because there really is no complicated adjustment involved. I simply replaced my regular toothpaste with it and continued brushing as usual.

And that is one of the things I appreciate most about wellness products: the best ones do not necessarily require you to rearrange your entire life.

Brushing my teeth is already something I do every morning and every night. KLYYR simply gave me a reason to become a little more intentional about what I was using while doing it.

I also appreciate that the brand has managed to take an ingredient with a rather intimidating name—hydroxyapatitedefinitely does not roll off the tongue the first time you say it!—and make the concept behind it surprisingly easy to understand.

Do You Need To Give Up Fluoride?

This is where I think personal choice—and a conversation with your dentist—matters. KLYYR is a fluoride-free toothpaste, and that is an important distinction to know before purchasing it.

Fluoride toothpaste remains widely recommended by dental organizations for cavity prevention, so I would never suggest that everyone should automatically abandon fluoride because another ingredient is trending.

Instead, I think hydroxyapatite toothpaste is something worth learning about if you are interested in alternative oral-care formulations or specifically looking for a fluoride-free option.

Your teeth, dental history, cavity risk, sensitivity, and overall oral health are individual, so your dentist is always the best person to help you decide what makes sense for you.

My Final Thoughts On KLYYR

The wellness industry introduces us to new ingredients constantly, and I have learned not to assume that new to me means new.

Hydroxyapatite is a perfect example.

It has a long history of research and use, particularly in Japanese oral care, yet many people in the United States are only now starting to see it appear more frequently in their toothpaste aisle and social media feeds.

What drew me to KLYYR was the combination of its 10% hydroxyapatite formula, nano + micro hydroxyapatite blend, fluoride-free approach, and minimal ingredient philosophy.

But what makes me continue paying attention to a product is always much simpler: Does it fit naturally into real life? For me, KLYYR does.

It turned one of the most ordinary parts of my daily routine into something I actually wanted to learn more about—and considering we brush our teeth thousands of times throughout our lives, I think what we choose to brush with deserves at least a little thought.

If you have been curious about hydroxyapatite toothpaste, KLYYR is certainly an interesting place to start your research.
